Week 31 in Florida (Naples Week 3)

So.... I always forget what we did in the week. It all just runs
together. I've noticed lately that every time I wake up in the morning
I think "didn't I just do this?" Seriously. The mission stuff is
crazy.
Well we had interviews with president on Tuesday. I love interviews.
They're only 10-15 minutes, which is like no time at all. But it's
nice to have all his attention for that time. It's like growing up and
loving when your mom or dad would take you out to ice cream or for a
drive to just talk. Of course when you have 240+ kids it gets a little
harder. All you have time for is to give then each 10 minutes every
few months. But hey, we survive!
We have this one potential, Josè (go figure), who seemed GOLDEN. We
stopped by last Sunday to leave a prayer with his family, and his
pastor or priest man was there too. So it turned into a catholic
prayer circle. Which is totally fine. And we said we'd call to set
something else up. So we were in his area on Saturday, and saw him
outside and went to talk to him. He said that his wife doesn't really
want us over, but he wants to hear what we have. So we started
teaching him right there! But then his wife came outside. I freaked
out a little and just said hi to here, handed him the pamphlet we were
teaching from and said to call us. But somehow she started talking,
and told us to finish. She also asked about the polygamy stuff. We
assure her that we do not practice that stuff, and she suddenly opened
up a little more. I asked her if she had any questions and she said
no. She said the priest man told her that (ugh). So we just summarized
the restoration. Josè said something about there being so many
churches and who really knows which one is right. We told him that the
pamphlet had a story about a boy who had the same question, and how he
found his answer. We told him that we help people to learn how to find
the answers for themselves because they can't just go around believing
everything they hear. He said he would read it and pray about it and
call us when he does! And then on Sunday we changed the area lines,
and he's now in the other sisters' area...:( but he'll be baptized one
day and we'll see him at church :)
Friday, Hermana Killpack was sick. She kept saying she was fine, but
you could tell she was sick, and no one likes to sick a sick
missionary. We tried a couple appointments and no one answered the
dorm, and another appointment canceled. Point proven! So we stayed
home all day. She slept, and I just about went nuts. I read all of
revelations (still don't quite understand it all) and some of Jesus
the Christ. And then the normal reading of conference talks, watching
random church movies we have, and reading past emails to see all the
changes from the passed 8 months. Man, there have been a lot! It was
fun, but I was glad she was better on Saturday to so some work!
Saturday was a funeral for a member I met my first week. He was 91 and
suffering from Alzheimer's. He lived at home until the last week, and
could still sing all the hymns. He reminded me of the member in Tampa
that I sang with and who said the first vision with me :) This member
and his family are from Brazil, so the funeral was in Portuguese, and
I understood most of it! If I wasn't serving a spanish speaking
mission, I'd go for Portuguese, it's beautiful! Trent, I hope you
still use it!
Well, that was pretty much the stuff that stood out! This work is
awesome! There's so many blessings that EVERYONE can have. Obedience
is key. There's a saying that Elder Kopischke told us: "find more
rules, and follow them."  I'm trying to find those, instead of just
sticking to the basics. I'm excited to see what happens! And I hope I
can keep that attitude even for after the mission :)
¡Les quiero! Sean buenos :)
Con amor,
Hermana Despain
