Ho-ly COW!!! These weeks are just flying by! Transfers are in two more weeks. We all have a feeling that EVERYTHING is going to change. So at church and meetings, whenever we're just talking, we usually end up talking about the transfer. The hermanas have all gotten really close in the passed 8 weeks, so we're all a LITTLE bit sad. But it's all for the work, and it'll be fine! We've also heard that areas are going to closed or re-organized. So that'll be fun. It also means that President has been a little stressed. He's such a good president! He expects a lot from us, which is good! Obedience is a must from him (and from the Lord), and he's not afraid to take away privileges when we're disobedient. He's a great substitute for our parents back home.
A ver (let's see), what did we do this week... Well, we have baptismal date!!!! It's not until Nov. 30th, but it's for a very good reason. This lady, Victoria, asked if we could wait that long, because her daughter and grandkids are moving here from Cuba in November, and she wants them to be baptized with her!!!! OH MY GOODNESS THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!!! I'm so excited for her :D She's the sweetest thing ever, and I love teaching her. Her husband is not too interested right now. He said there are too many churches but there's only one God, and he doesn't understand why. BUT, he won't sit down long enough for us to explain that to him. Eventually, but now right now. Which is totally fine.
Oh! Here's a cool thing I forgot to tell you all last week. Elder Valensuela who spoke in conference came to Mexico while I was there! He told us that he'd only been learning English for a few months, but I thought his English was great!!! He told us he'd be speaking in Conference, and that if he could do that, we could learn Spanish. Watching him at conference made me realize that every time there's a speaker who is speaking English not as they're native language, it's the gift of tongues. Isn't that amazing!? I never thought of it like that! There are always a handful of speakers in conference who are bearing testimony of the Gift of Tongues just by getting up there and speaking! That helps me a lot to know that even though I'm not fluent and usually don't understand most of what people say, as long as I'm worthy to have that gift of tongues, I'll have it. I LOVE THAT!!!
Here's a thing I learned this week: flirt to convert does NOT work for missionaries. We met a couple guys who speak English. There from India and are Muslim. They said they wanted to know more about our religion, so we got their info so we could pass them off to the English sisters. One of them is a LITTLE BIT flirty, but with the mission rules we have to be careful about that. Of course he just thinks we're weird and have a lot of excuses, but I'm especially grateful for the mission rules! There's no way to get into trouble spiritually or temporally when we're being obedient!
Here's a funny bit of the week! So my trainer is amazing, and I love her a lot. She also has the worst fear of spiders that I've ever seen. She pretty much stops breathing and can't move until I do something to make it go away. Yesterday, on our drive home from church, there was a bit of a situation. We had Hermanas Lewis and Newbill with us, because we were taking them home. They started freaking out a little bit, and told us not to freak out and don't look. But of course that makes Hna. Russell look. I'm just trying to drive, and I'm not sure what's going on, but Hna. Russell starts screaming, Hnas. Lewis and Newbill are trying to calm her down, and then they yell at me a couple times to slow down. Oh, I was also freaking out a little bit, because I didn't know what was going on. Here's what happened: there was a spider in the car, right at Hna. Russell's head! I didn't see it, but she said it was huge! So Hna. Newbill took a paper and killed it, and rolled up the paper in a ball. The whole this lasted a minute, but it was so ridiculous! and absolutely hilarious!!!
Last thing- THE WORD OF WISDOM!!!! Oh man, that thing is SUCH a blessing!!! One of the families we teach, the Moreno's, are an amazing family! And they would be EVEN more AMAZING if they didn't drink every night after work... And there's a guy we teach, Orar, but he's always drunk. When you're not following the word of wisdom, it is so hard to feel the spirit. The spirit can't teach people who are drunk, or high, or anything. Not only that, but our bodies are GIFTS from GOD!!! He's given us the word of wisdom so that we can know EXACTLY how he wants to take care us them. It's like getting a new shirt from your grandma for Christmas. The tag says how to wash it, and when you wash it wrong, bad things can happen, and you haven't shown your appreciation to your grandma very well. If any of you have problems with the Word of Wisdom, I'd invite you to try the Daniel Challenge (from Daniel 1). Follow the Word of Wisdom EXACTLY for 10 days, and see if you feel the Spirit better, have more answers to prayers, have more energy, can do more things in your day, and so much more. I know that you will be blessed. I'm trying to do that just with making sure I eat correctly, and I'm excited to see some blessings!
Oh man, being a missionary is the BEST!!! I am so glad that I'm here. I can't even imagine doing anything else with my life. I've only been a missionary for 3 months, but I've already learned so much! This gospel is SO true! Like Moroni, I WILL NOT DENY THE CHRIST. That is why I'm here. He's coming back eventually, and it is up to us to help others be ready for it. Here's how I see it: when we're all up in heaven again, people are going to come up to you and say "thank you so much for sharing the gospel with me. You are why I'm here." or "I am so sorry I never listened to you on earth. Thank you for being a good example to me. I just wish I had listened better." Or "why did you never tell me about all this?" Sometimes sharing the gospel is hard, especially with your friends and family. But it's our job. We need to give them the choice to accept Christ, and then they deal with the consequences, whether they listen and accept it or not. I hope that all of you are praying for opportunities to be missionaries. With that, you need to be praying with real intent, meaning that when you pray, you are REALLY going to act on the answer you get. If God answers your prayer by putting someone in your path that you can share the gospel with, you had better do it! Or else He's not going to give you those opportunities. I know it's scary, I'm scared all the time! But if your trust really is in the Lord, there's not much left to be afraid of.
Les quiero, muchismo!! Gracias por sus oraciones, cartas, amor, y todo! Ojala, toda esta bien, y Dios esta con ustedes :D
con amor siempre,
Hermana Despain
