Ah!!!!! Hna. Lewis made a joke that i could paint one more nail black
every week, starting with my toes! Haha, that's be too much.
Anyway, we had an almost perfect week! We met all our goals!!!!!! When
you reach your goal, there's a part on our areabook that turns green,
and we had all green! It was awesome!
Esperanza got baptized on Thursday, and it went perfectly! Well, after
she actually got there! We called her in the morning to make sure she
actually had a ride. She said she didn't! So we called a few people,
and they couldn't pick her up. Then she told us she had a friend that
could bring her. So we were good. Until bishop texted us to ask her to
find her a ride. Her ride fell through again! And there still wasn't
anyone to get her! But because we're very faithful missionaries, we
continued on preparing for the baptism, filling the font, making the
program, continuing to ask members, and calling Esperanza. Finally,
she got someone to take her to the baptism! She got to the church
like 20 minutes before we we're suppose to start. She changed and we
got pictures and still started on the time! It wouldn't be worth it if
it was easy, right? She got confirmed on Sunday, and is just flying
through life! And! She should get to come to the temple this Saturday!
And the ward loves her :)
Alberto is back in town! We saw him on Friday and asked him if he
still wants to be baptized. He still has problems with the word of
wisdom, but he hasn't had coffee, and he hasn't smoked in several
days! He came to church on Sunday, bishop approves, he got an
interview after church, and is good to go for Thursday! He's the first
baptism I've been a part of that I really was with him through it all.
I was with Hna. Killpack for his first contact with missionaries,
taught him with her, Hna. Melchor, and now Hna. Lewis, and now he's
getting baptized! It's been so amazing to see him change! A few of the
members knew him from previous jobs, and are surprised by the changes
he's made. And they're all supporting him, 100%!
Sunday was amazing! Carmen came, she's the 90 year old mom of a member
who hasn't been able to come very constantly. But that should stop
now! She wants to come and has a baptism date for the middle of August
:)
The whole Reyes family came! That's Iris, Rosa, Mario, Shadai, Shalom,
and Tayris! Rosa and Iris are sisters, and they all love in the same
apartment house. Rosa's been very less active, her sons are Shadai and
Shalom, so they haven't come either, and Tayris is kinda lazy... And
Mario hasn't been in a few weeks because of work. We saw them
yesterday night and Hna. Iris told us she woke everyone up by saying
whoever didn't come to church today would be kicked out of the house!
Haha, they're Dominican, and awesome :) we were pretty proud of her!
She also told Tayris she's not gonna pay for her phone until she comes
to church, haha! We taught Mario, and figured out what they need to do
to get married. It just comes down to money! They need about $250 to
get married. They need to go to Miami, to get a passport for Mario, so
they can get married so Mario can get baptized. We set a plan for them
to just save it up, budget a little, maybe do without, but only for a
month! After we really talked about it, they decided they could get
the money by the end of August, get married the beginning of
September, and Mario can get baptized right after!!! It seems so
reachable now that we actually have a plan! Funny concept, huh?
Speaking of which- we met a couple young adult Cubans one night. They
had a lot of questions about who we are and what we're doing. It was
fun! But we realized after, they're our age, but there's such a
difference between us. They don't have goals in life! They don't have
plans, or seems to think about the future much. As missionaries, and
in the church in general, we always have 3, 5, 20 year plans! I love
it! I've learned a lot about that, setting goals, and then making
plans to reach those goals! That's how things get done! Elder Clark
told us that if people would study chapter 8 from Preach my Gospel and
live it, they would triple their income. Triple! That's nuts! So why
don't people do it!? I know I will!
Well, that's what's going on in my life :) oh also, Hna. Lewis is
going home! A couple weeks early to take care of her family, while her
sister's still in the hospital. Which is good :) but! There are no
extra missionaries right now. We're getting a lot next transfer, but
that's not for 2 1/2 weeks after she leaves. So... Right now the plan
is that I'll be with the English sisters for those 2 1/2 weeks, and
get as much work done as possible, which needs to be a lot. Hopefully
I can just be companions with some members! We'll see how it goes ;)
Los quiero, tanto!
Con cariƱo,
Hermana Despain
